The Cellar

I've driven by The Cellar many times but I never noticed their logo on the side of the building until now. I assume this would be considered outdoor directional type due mainly to the fact the type is showing movement by descending down a flight of stairs. Within the logo, there is an inconsistency in the letterforms and spacing but for those who haven't been in there, the logo pretty much tells it all...you have to go down some stairs to a "cellar"-like bar area hence the name. Big Gulps ehh?...welp...see ya later

This picture is sweet. I've seen that too, it's cleverly done. You are already heading down the stairs as you read the word.

this kind of reminds me of The Door Dallas. The sign for The Door is actually in front of the door, but i dont think it was planned that way. This is way cooler though, great example!

The Cellar logo is a memorable image, but I never thought of it as directional signage until now. It really does illustrate direction in the most simple way. Drunk people can't get confused. Just follow the letters.

As everyone has already state, this is a very interesting example. However, the choice of font used for the word CELLAR also adds to the design. Instead of choosing an upright and structured font, they chose to work with a playful font and shift the baselines on each letter. This effect conveys a "welcoming" feel to guests.

Agreed. In case you can't figure out by the word "Cellar" that you go downstairs... the sign illustrates it for you!
