looking at the past


I thought this shows an interesting process of type design. Even though every typeface is unique this example shows how it always derives from one or more old typefaces. In this case, the font was influenced by the old typefaces Charter and Arcadia.

that is very interesting. most type faces we use today were somehow rendered from a pre-existing font. this example uses an upright itallic, which is very unique and reminds me of the old script type.

The serifs in the work are the defining detail that suggest an old style font but due to the additional text, a modern look is attained successfully

In addition to the structure of the type, the look of the type itself is very organic in that it looks like it was printed the old school way. You can see the imperfections in the lettering on the big type on the left. Also, the note taking look behind the big type adds to the old font look.
