THE ZOO (not hippies)

The important thing in directional type is readability. this is achieved by the simplicity of the sign or design. i found this ft worth zoo sign while i was driving around. it is very easy to read and can be recognized from far away, which is necessary for traffic signs. the zoo logo is easily recognizable, the directional arrow is very prominent, and the colors are catchy but not distracting.
i took this picture while i was driving (not bad eh?) and we are lucky i didn't get in a wreck in the process (close call though)...
also in my scavengering i found this sign for hippies...i thought i'd share it with you for humorous purposes.
enjoy.

apparently my posts are experiencing user error, so sorry. anyways, Platypus, I don't know where you find this stuff, but I envy you for it. I absolutely love the "Hippies" sign. It's not your conventional directional sign, directing traffic or negating speeds, but directing people. Love it. As for the sign itself, the body copy is arranged nicely, I especially like the notation on the bottom. The smaller font size works here because the notation is still legible but not dominating. Good job!

Love your hippie signage -- agree with bongo_drummer about it not being your conventional directional sign. It's well thought-out visually and has a great message!

Your zoo arrows (especially the black and white ones) are an example of plain-vanilla predictability in our culture. In the future, concentrate on finding examples of well-designed, less predictable solutions in type usage.

I like the NO HIPPIES sign. It's simple, clear and addresses the viewer in a direct manner. Hippies can't argue with the clarity of the typeface.

the hippie sign is great. I love that zoo sign. Its curvy typeface is a nice contract to all other plain jane street signs around it. It really makes it jump out and catch the viewers attention. I also really like how they were able to change the f into an elephant without losing any legibility.
