I really like this sign because of it's readability, and the way that the figures move slightly from picture to picture. It reminds me of the flip books you made in elementary school, where when you flip them really fast the image moves, but here, if you look across it really fast, it sort of has the same effect. I like this sign because like Platypus's, it's unconventional in it's direction of type. it's not negating speeds, traffic or people, but showing a movement from figure to figure and therefore creating motion which ultimately leads to direct. i really like the concept and the simplicity of it.
I agree with bongo drummer on how unconventional this example is. Not just because the stiff people are different, but also because we usually dont think about it as directional. Its not pointing to anything, it is labeling the bathroom . But it is very directional in that way because it is so universal, everyone knows the meaning and therefore it draws us to it wherever we go.
The guy/girl bathroom logos are some of the most important directional signage. When you gotta go, you gotta go. They're one of the first signs we look for when we get off a plane or drank too much soda during class.
I dont really see the directional signage in this example, but I do agree with Jenna on the flipbook feel. I dont know if that thought comes across right away to anyone who sees it, but in a way, I guess you could say it subliminally makes the viewer want to proceed to the restroom?
