Ghost Ridin'

Well, here we have a street sign. Yep. The sign is giving directions. It's not a terribly interesting example, but it demonstrates the idea. The 'only' is placed within a white arrow, suggesting that if you follow under that arrow, you can only go where the sign says you will go. Yep, pretty complicated. Anyway, i think the one thing i can point out about this sign is the overall arrangement. The sign is arranged virtically, so that you read the sign down toward the direction the arrow is pointing, which not many people would notice, but it helps in communicating the idea behind the sign. Toots!

Aww snap! Sweet picture, josh! Its the best one.
good point about the verticality, an important aspect. super.
In the future, concentrate on finding examples of well-designed, less predictable solutions in type usage. This blog should be a venue for displaying examples of exceptional design that can generate intellegent discourse about creative and innovative type usage.
good find josh! this is definately directional type, but i am not a fan of the arrow. it looks crowded and "only" looks smushed. it takes away from legibility. because the arrow is so short, it looks more like a shape than an arrow.
Josh you went out on a limb on this one...
It is short and to the point...that's good to have when you're going down tyhe road at 50 mph
I agree with anonymousplatypus...too much smashed on one sign! They should learn from our other examples and make everyday directional signage more interesting. Road trips are long and boring enough...lets spice up the journey Mr. highway sign designer.
