turn your head and cough

This is the sign for a Pediatrician's office a block down from my apartment. I drive by it pretty regularly, and have always thought it was a clever use of imagery mixed with type. As you can see, the "Y" in "TYKES" is replaced by a stethoscope. While the overall look of the sign is not that fantastic, the use of the stethoscope Y is nicely done. It represents that this is a doctor's office, but in a playful way that is appropriate for a children's doctor.

haha, the y is replaced by a stethoscope (can't spell)...well done...but as the top of the image i feel that it closes in a little too much, hurting the shape of the normal letterform y...other than that, cute spin on doctor stuff...

This drives me crazy...I feel like the designer stretched this concept way too far. Great signage is a about great typography, getting the point across in a simple, legible way. The stethoscope distracts more than it enhances.

I think the Stethoscope "y" could have been pushed alittle farther such as opening the ear pieces apart more

I wish they had made the stethoscope smaller or something cause I really had a hard time figuring out what it said! I would have pushed the ear pieces apart also...it might help it look more like a Y

I really do like the stethoscope concept, but if the website address wasn't there, the absence of a second "T" for Tykes might make far away readers read it as Tots and Ykes...not good pediatricians...not good at all.
