Staples because Office Depot sucks
Well here in the Staples sign, the letter 'L' is interpreted as a staple OR the staple in the word is interpreted as a 'L'...either way it's just beautiful interpretive typography. The staple/L form describes what products or genre of products the company offers and the use of a simple sanserif font gives the logo a formal business feel.

This is a great example of simple, clean design. The sign would otherwise be boring without the bend of the L in STAPLES.
I agree
I never even noticed that the L was a staple before. shows how observant I am! Good example.
I dont quite understand what your talking about when you describe it and you start talking about either/or. Anyway, its a classic example of interpretive type. It's so simple and they didnt even have to change the stroke weight or style or color or anything.
i never really got that that was a bent staple either, i always just thought it was an ugly L.
simple, easy, and straight to the point....i like it...however, if they changed the weight and stroke of that L, it would look even more like a staple, thus enhancing the image and better displaying their business...
I dont know how many times I have drove by this sign or gone to staples to work on a type project...and I have never noticed that! Agreed color me cool...the staples sign would suck without that minor detail!
