80's style
I personally really like the imagery used by this store in order to convey the idea of "cool" hair cuts. I know that when I think of cool I think of old school plastic sunglasses with neon sides, and only the coolest cool kids wear those. The "OO" of cool has been replaced by the imagery of sunglasses conveying the ideal of cool, but also the STYLED hair shown above the glasses compliments the word "CUTS". Even though the sign itself never says the word "hair-cuts" it is implied by the imagery of the hair. Without the hair, and without the hair being styled (which was key because messy hair wouldn't get the same effect of a hair salon across) the sign would just read "Cool Cuts 4 Kids" which would leave a broad opening for interpretation. Cool cuts for what? Circumcisions? Is CUTS a new slang for clothes? With the imagery of the sunglasses and hair it is apparent that the store is a hair salon for children. Very nice use of interpretational text and imagery.

So COOL. It's definately very 80s looking. This would have been the type of hair salon I would have begged my mom to take me too. The sign seems to promise this awesome neon world inside, where your mom can't say no to the mohawk you want.
The sunglasses in place of the oo's in cool, along with the Playful typeface definately gets the point across to the general public. I agree with what you said about the hair being styled. Although I think the signage is good I don't think I would ever take my kids here(if I were a parent), it just seems like chuckee cheese with a barber. And that mouse pretty much scares the crap out of me.
I love it! The sunglasses with the hair sums up the salon business in one fell swoop. Also, it doesn't decrease legibility in anyway, it read so well, "Cool Cuts"....so choice, and so 80s as stated by color me cool...
Defintely has that little kids feel to it and the use of the sunglasses as the "o"s gives it that cheesy little-kids-trying-to-be-cool look
