This typography tat is a matematical equation. The elegant black italic letterforms reference the clean legibility of text books. the equation itself is about some concept called mathematical singularity. here is what wikipedia has to say about mathematical singularity:
In mathematics, a singularity is in general a point at which a given mathematical object is not defined, or a point of an exceptional set where it fails to be well-behaved in some particular way, such as differentiability. See singularity theory for general discussion of the geometric theory, which only covers some aspects.
so that is the context if you were curious. The execution is nice as well as the placement. the tattoo is much more effective on the knuckles than if it were on the arm or back all together. neato.

i haven't known anyone to put mathematical equations on themselves...then again...someone had a tatoo of mustard....the typeface works well, it looks the kind found in math books and on tests
i agree with enchilada, i like the typeface used, it has a very mathematical highschool textbooky feel that adds to the overall concept of the tat itself. had it been in helevetica or some other standard font, i think it would have lost some of it's impact, but im pretty sure anyone who had a highschool math class can feel an association to the type. i really like the uniqueness of the tat also.
